Brennan's Journey

The support Brennan has received is overwhelming and incredibly humbling. There is a growing number of people who are asking us how they can help Brennan through his journey and our main focus and priority continues to be prayer for Brennan, his overall health and for the doctors. But so many people are wanting to help even more. For those that feel led to help Brennan financially, a "donate" button is now available. It is linked directly to a special account for Brennan and his long road ahead. Any amount is greatly appreciated. I wish there were words to express our gratitude for all of the support and prayers B is receiving. Thank you to all and God Bless.

Pre-Op Appointment

We had our pre-op appointment today at 1:30. It started with a hearing test for Brennan, testing his "normal" side (right ear) and his Atresia side (left ear). He has had many hearing tests before, so he is a pro at these. Sometimes B can be a bit antsy during the tests or even stubborn and not want to cooperate. I silently prayed through the whole thing as he was on my lap. He did amazing! They got the tests that they needed. His hearing on his right side is just perfect! His left side shows hearing loss and but confirmed that the inner ear structures are working, which is why we are doing this surgery. With an ear canal and ear drum in place he will hopefully be able to hear better!
Next we met with Dr. Roberson's nurse. She went through the whole procedure with us (which we basically have memorized from all the research we have done). Then, the horrible part... she went through 3 major risks. I hated listening to the explanation of risks, but I knew they had to be stated and explained. Next we met with the nurse who organized the surgery. She went through all the medications we need to get and the post-op care. Most of the post-op care we knew about but 2 were a surprise:
1. No drinking from a straw for 3 weeks (his sippy cups have straws... bye bye sippy cups, he is now growing up and moving on to big boy cups)
2. No running around or jumping for 2-3 weeks (ha ha ha... this one made me gasp... I mean really, B... not running or jumping... that's all he does is run around and jump. This is going to be the HARD one)

Last, we met with the surgeon, Dr. Roberson. He made us feel at ease and answered our lingering questions. He was so reassuring and nice. We really like him!!!

So, tomorrow's schedule is as following:

6:30 am... check in at surgery center
7:30 am... surgery
10:00am... surgery should be complete
10:00am - 12:00pm... recovery
12pm- discharged and back to hotel room... to rest and recover

Here are some pictures from this afternoon:

CPK for lunch before pre-op

The California Ear Institute

Checking his ear drum function in his right ear
B and mommy inside the audiology booth

Wearing the headphones for the hearing test
B got to choose a toy!!!

We aren't sure how sensitive his hearing will be after surgery, so we treated him to a movie after his appointment
Last meal for a while... only the best of course! (B's favorite)

B can't get his ear wet for a minimum of 2 months after surgery... so he enjoyed some bathtime fun

We just love our cutie and trust that God will protect this little guy through surgery.
Thank you for your prayers!

We've been telling Libi all about Brennan and his upcoming surgery. Her response was that she wants to give him a kiss to make him feel better!
We have a little gift for Brennan that we will give to Patty for when you get home. The entire Ippolito clan is praying for all of you :)
