Here is how the last 5 hours have been.... Dr. Roberson walked into the waiting room around 10:45, so it was about a 3 hour procedure. He walked in with a huge smile on his face, which was reassuring! I can't quite remember all he said... I was just focusing on the part that B made it through and that the surgery was a complete successs! B had scored an "8" on his CT scan last year. It's a score the Dr. gives out of 10. Usually if you score a 7,8 or 9 you are a good candidate for this surgery. The doctor said that while doing the surgery, Brennan was really a 9! Which is awesome. It basically means we hope for 90% hearing out of his left ear, if everything heals properly!
The anesthesiologist came in and got me. B was having a hard time, kicking and screaming. They placed him in my lap and it took him a little while to calm down. Then he slept for about 20 minutes. They aided him with some oxygen to make sure he was getting enough. He slowly woke up a happy little guy... just very thirsty. He was coming back to his usual self!!! He was the same little guy!!! I don't know why we worried this surgery would somehow change him in some way, it was a concern of ours. Joel was able to join us and we hung out with Brennan until the nurses thought he was ready to go "home."
B sat on my lap as we got wheeled to our car in a wheelchair. B thought that was cool! It was weird to leave. He just had a major head surgery, and off we went. I wish we could have stayed there for a few days being surrounded and cared for by the awesome nursing staff. B fell asleep in the car but started complaining about his head wrap. He wanted it off and said it was itching. It can't come off until tomorrow around 10:45 (24 hours after)... so this is going to be difficult. He also can't sleep on the left side of his head... this is also going to be difficult. No sleep for me :) Oh well, recovery for our lil guy is much more important.
We got back to the hotel and wheeled him in his stroller to our room. He was excited to take the "alagater" (elevator) in the stroller... it's the simple things I guess :) He tried to take off his head wrap a few times as I kept explaining that Monkey can't have his off until tomorrow either. He slept on and off and then threw up all over the bed. He cried as we changed him and the sheets. Now he is sleeping by Joel's side. He has probably been sleeping almost 2 hours. I know this will be a long night, but so very worth it.
We are so grateful for the success of the surgery! We felt everyone's prayers!!! It is amazing how God has used prayers of friends, family and even those we don't even know!
Recovery is the next step... we are thankful we have made it here!!!
And... some pictures....
Such a BLESSING! A friend of ours, Kelly McCarthy, came by to offer some support while we were waiting. She lives about 20 minutes away from the surgery center. She brought along her adorable girls and we held hands as she prayed for us. I don't think she will ever know how much that moment meant for us. Thank you Kelly!

Monkey had his head wrapped too!
The oxygen cup helping him out
Just woke up... and with a smile :)
Sleeping in car
Hopefully when he wakes up we can get some more fluids in him and he can start eating some food.
I'm so thankful. I wish there was another word I can think of to sum up today... but I think this one suffices... THANKFUL!

PTL for His mercy and goodness. You guys are seriously AWESOME parents. :)
So glad to hear all went so well and the surgery is now over. It is such a relief having the surgery behind you (I remember that feeling so clearly).
Hope Brennan has a good night & you manage to get some sleep too.
